What Is Excessive Drinking?
- Drinking more or longer than intended
- Trying to cut down or stop drinking but unable to
- Needing more alcohol to achieve the desired effect
- Continuing to drink despite anxiety, depression, or health issues

- Spending a lot of time thinking about or using alcohol

Alcohol & Pregnancy
There is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Avoiding alcohol is the safest option for you and your baby’s health.
Standard Drink Sizes
- 12 oz of beer (5%)
- 8 oz of malt liquor (7%)
- 5 oz of wine (12%)
- 1.5 oz of distilled spirits (40%)
Treatment Options
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
- Naltrexone: Reduces cravings and blocks the pleasurable effects of alcohol. Administered after detox.
- Acamprosate: Eases emotional distress during abstinence.
- Disulfiram: Causes unpleasant symptoms when alcohol is consumed, discouraging use.rinking more or longer than intended
